2007 450er starter kicking out
I got a 2007 TRX450ER that doesnt want to start. I hit the start button and after a couple turns of the motor the starter kicks out. Thought it was the starter, had it checked out and it was fine. Don't know what else to do. It starts if you push start it but not when you try to electric start it. Any suggestions?
Thanks, Dylan

Is it the one-way clutch or the starter gear?

Typically you should repalce the gear 28110-MEY-670, clutch 28125-MEY-671 and friction ring 28127-MS2-612

Do you have to split the case in order to get to those parts? and if so would you have to drain oil and antifreeze?

No - you don't have to split the case. Just take the LH engine cover off and pull the flywheel. You can avoid draining the oil by tipping it up on the side, but the oil probably needs changing unless you just did it recently. The starter clutch wears out from running in dirty oil or oil not suited for use in motorcycles. If you ride a lot, change the oil and filter every month and use oil rated API SJ or lower or JASO MA or higher. Honda GN or HP oils are a good choice.
