Welcome to the forum. Could be rings or valve steam seals.

wut color smoke? Could be running rich. black smoke is too much fuel, blue/grey is oil.

Those 80's hondas are known for carb problems, especially the wonky idle screws. Thers a guy on ebay that sells knockoff carbs for them at like 50 for a new carb. So far I've bought 2 of them and they have worked great for over a year now.

Default 1986 TRX200SX no spark

Hi,
I recently adopted an '86 trx200sx with "no spark" I thought could be easy to fix... yeah. I had been told the stator was bad. But I usually have to prove things myself. The fellow said he tried different cdi and coil to no avail. I measured the stator and pulsers and their resistance was in spec. I spun the motor and measured about 100 volts ac from the red and black wire to the CDI. and expected something from the cdi to the coil but found no output. I decided to look at the stator... when I pulled the left crankcase cover, water and oil poured out (much to my dismay). The stator and everything in there was soaked in grey gooey oil. I expect that is what is causing the problem. I assume there is some crank seal behind the flywheel thats gone. but also suspect the pulser is toast. As I said I read its resistance per the service manula and it was correct. But maybe its flooded and shorted to ground? I also expect to measure some voltage from it? I mean how han it excite without that? Any comments are welcome.

Default 86 trx200sx

I figured out the spark thing. It was the CDI unit. But, I still can't believe that the stator and all should be in oil. Is this normal or do I need to pull the flywheel and replace something?
