Default 96 trx300 carb help

first off, hellow, i'm new here, but an expierenced forum member and mechanic...

i have a 96 trx300 2x4 i'm trying to bring back from the dead, it sat for an unknown amount of years (last sticker was 2006, but who knows?) the cdi was toast, replaced it with a hot shot box and got spark, then went for the carb...

i have cleaned it mutiple times with no luck, it will not idle, but runs great when driving it, tring to adjust the idle up and it will want to "run away" adjust it back down and it stalls, i have cleaned and blown out everything i can find,

the two things i am unsure of are...there are 3 jets, the main (everything seems fine) the smaller one next to it, (seems like there should be a hole in the end of the jet, but cant get anything through it), and near the botton of the tube the smaller get is in, there is a hole, it was pluged when i started, but blew out with air, but i'm not sure if it is one of thoes holes that should be pluged, any ideas?

and i do now have a carb kit on the way...

The smaller jet should have a hole. It is your pilot jet and controls the idle through 1/4 throttle. GO to the shop and get a new one. they are around 6 bucks. I know its alot. I just had to rejet my quad and bout about 60 dollars worth of jets.

Yep! Thaats the pilot/slow jet. THe only thing I could think of small enough is a peice of wire from a wire brush.

well, i'm a bit of an impatient person, and couldnt wait for the kit to show up, so i pulled it apart again last night and finally go a piece of wire through it, and now it runs perfect, put new tires on it last night and she is ready for the trail!!!

thanks! this is the first forum i have posted in and gotten a timely, unsarcastic, and most of all correct, responce.... good work, and thanks again, this is how forums should work
