2001 honda rancher es 350 wont stay running

hey yall im new to the forum. i have a 2001 honda racher 350 es. what happend was i let it sit for a long time like 2-3 months and didnt ride it or anything.

i hook the battery up to my truck or another fourwheeler with cables and it runs when i give it a little bit of gas and it stays on. once i disconnect those cables the thing shuts off. now i am thinking like an alternator type issue? but im not sure. i have replaced the battery and that has not given me any resluts. a couple people have told me to replace the Magneto? im not 100% on what that is.

any help you could give me would be appreciated thanks yall.

You need a fully charged battery. It sounds like your battery is dead or has dead cells. Some bikes/atv's require a little bit of juice flowing in order to run. Go get a brand new battery and charge it properly and then try starting it again. Also, dump the old gas out of the tank and run fresh gas with a little Seafoam or other fuel system cleaner in it. Try that and let us know what happens.
