400ex drive sprocket

The front drive sprocket keeps falling off the shaft. The retaining ring is installed but the splines are worn and it will not stay in place. Is there an easy fix or is it going to require the engine to be torn down and the shaft replace?

you could try filing down the grooves in the shaft

Try a new sprocket and new retainer - if that doesn't work - new transmission shaft.
