Let's jump ahead here and presume you are talking about the cam timing. It's simple - get a service manual - set the crankshaft at TDC of the compression stroke, remove the cam chain tensioner, remove the head cover, check the timing marks on the cam gear (they should be parallel to the surface of the head) - if the cam timing is off, determine if the cam chain tensioner is or is not defective - if the tensioner is good, replace the cam chain - if the cam was out of time more than 1 tooth, do a cylinder pressurization test to determine if the valves are bent - if the valves are bent, pull the cylinder head and replace the valves - reassemble with new gaskets and new oil.

Yes if you get a simple shop manual that will make it so much easier you can probaly pick up a clymer manual off ebay for around 30$ That will make it much easier

Screw Ebay - a brand new Clymer manual is about $30

Go to tradebit.com and download a manual for $5 to $10
