Default 06 400 top end help

i have a 2006 400ex and it smokes pretty bad so im going to do a new top end but dont know what to get. im thinking about a standard bore kit with cylinder off ebay,would that be the easiest and best way?

You need to take the motor apart to find out where the oil is getting into the combustion chamber. I have seen motors that smoke just because the oil was diluted with gas and the crankcase was overfull. Others just loose the seal between the cam chain well and the cylinder. Some have bad rings and others just have bad valve seals.

You can fix it by throwing a bunch of new parts into it or finding the cause and correcting it. What would you think if you bought a cylinder kit off ebay and after putting it back together it still smoked? That can happen if the new parts are not assembled correctly or if the cause was in the head instead of the piston and rings.
