Installing Right Crankcase Cover

I was given an '86 TRX 250 (utility), and had to replace the right side crankcase cover as the other was cracked. Removal was easy, almost too easy... upon reinstalling, I think I missed some details... I haven't fired it up yet as there is other work required before I do so, but in just shifting through the gears I know this isn't right... I can shift up 4 or 5 clicks, but the first click down, it returns to neutral.

Can someone share this portion of the service manual, or any tips that don't require specialized tools for proper installation?
