A little ticking might normal. It's an air cooled motor and some noise is normal. Depends on what is doing the ticking. The cam chain is responsible for noise more than any other part and pistons are #2. Valves are way down the list. Valves in OHC motors normally get tighter with use unless something serious is going wrong.
