New from Ontario Canada.. Trx125

Hello everyone, I'm very new into any sort of 4 wheeler and am very green when it comes to the service end of vehicles. I have a 1985 Honda trx125 that was given to me but cuts out when put into gear. I've changed the gas, checked the oil, cleaned the screen near the carb and it still happens.. Kinda lost as to what I should be looking for to fix it.. Any help would be hugely appreciated

Operate the gear shift very gently. Does it die as soon as the neutral light goes out or does it die when the gears engage?

After letting it idle for a bit, I put it into gear and give it the gas but it dies after only going a few feet
