hard start

my 96 300ex is very hard to start &keep running when its cold out,any help will be useful.

I would check the valves and make sure they have the proper gap.
You may want to put in a size bigger pilot jet.

If your machine has the stock carb, it uses the traditional butterfly choke for cold starting. The choke butterfly is spring loaded to help prevent over choking. Check to ensure the spring is not broken. If the spring is broken you will need to get a different carb. Honda does not sell a replacement spring.
