Do you need an octane booster? Does the engine have spark knock (pre-ignition)? What engine are you running?
There are many ways to increase octane. Anything added to the fuel that slows the burn or raises the self ignition point of the fuel increases octane. Chemicals that increase octane include; oil, Methanol, Ethanol, Isopropyl alcohol, lead, MBTE (Methyl Tertiary-Butyl Ether), butane, xylene, toluene, LPG, diesel fuel, kerosene, lamp oil, and a host of others.
So the question is; why do you want to increase the octane of the fuel and how much do you want to slow the burn rate or increase the ignition point?
Where do you live? All of the stations in IL and surrounding states have minimum of two grades of fuel. A new station just opened in my town than has 87, 89, 91, 91 non ethanol, E85 and diesel fuel. I just use any non ethanol fuel in my cars, trucks, lawn mowers, snow blower, stand by generators and other small intermittently used gasoline engine powered equipment, but I use 94 octane VP racing fuel in my Honda CRF250. I tried 100 octane VP Racing T4, but it caused a power loss in my CRF. I used it up by mixing one quart of 100 octane to two gallons of 91 octane to achieve an approximate 93 octane. I found out by experimentation that my CRF lost power with anything above about 94.5 octane. So 93 to 94 is where I keep it.
