1988 TRX300 2x4, a work in progress.

Time to move from the Introduction forum.
Parts replaced so far:
- New rear axle. Came with quad, I installed it. Had to buy a few nuts & bolts that were missing.
It wouldn't start, so:
- CDI
- Coil
- Spark plug
- Air filter
It started and runs, but not very well.
- Front brake master cylinder (sight glass broken)
- Battery
- Exhaust heat shield
-Petcock
- Carb kit (installed today)
Still has issues. The vacuum diaphragm is torn. So one is on the way.
Main running problem is it runs good either low or high RPM, not both
Bought some mesh to repair some major cracks in the rear fender.
It's getting there. I want to get off our property and on some trails. I also want to get back home to, lol.

Suggestions:

The MC sight glass is not replaceable from Honda - gotta replace the MC, but you can get a Chinese sight glass for a few bucks - measure the hole the sight glass sits in - if the ID of the hole is 18mm, then a Chinese replacement will fit right in it (has to be pressed in).

The running issue is a carb issue - won't be right until the slide diaphragm is air tight (I presume it is the one you are referring to as torn?).

Sounds like you are about there.

That's the carb/diaphragm in question.
I can finesse it and ride it around all day. The rest of the family, not so much. Unless it functions perfectly they're helpless.
It will be here Thursday. I get home from work on Sunday so will replace it then. Thankfully it's just seat latch then 4 screws (unless I drop a screw in the dirt)

Installed the new diagram. That seems to have cured 99% of it. I think the remainder is 30 years of hard use.

Good deal - it's always comforting to hear that progress has been made
