Hello all, I am new here and just inherited this ATV from a relative. The ATV has sat outside for 2 years without being touched, prior to that it would get ridden every few months (to my knowledge with no issues). The CDI appears to be bad, it will spark one day then will not the next day. I have gone through all wiring and checked everything out and all appears to be well. Today I decided to give the CDI box a few good taps ( when not getting spark) with a wrench and I immediately got spark again. When looking up the part number I have mentioned, 30410-HC0-003, there are only used options on ebay and I would prefer to buy a new box. Would the part number, 30410-HC4-003, work for my quad even though it is advertised for a 88-03 300?

Part number 30410-HC0-003 was used on:
  • 1987 TRX250X A
  • 1988 TRX250X A
  • 1991 TRX250X A
  • 1991 TRX250X AN
  • 1992 TRX250X A
  • 1992 TRX250X AN
Part 30410-HC4-003 was used on:
  • 1988 TRX300 A
  • 1988 TRX300FW A
30410-HC0-003 is an AC CDI (plugged into a DC circuit it will let the smoke out)
30410-HC4-003 is a DC CDI unit (plugged into an AC circuit it does nothing)

You will have to have a 30410-HC0-003 unit and the only option is a used one.

Thanks for the clarification, I was hoping you would reply, I have been reading about my spark issues on here and your advice/tips on other threads has been very helpful!

I was able to locate some new Chinese ones on ebay for $8, I figured I would give one a shot and see how long it lasts/if it even works. Do you know much about the Ricks Electric boxes/ are they any good or see any actual performance gains?

Ricks is good - I have used their stators, rec/reg's and CDI boxes with favorable results. I did get a defective rec/reg out of the box and they warranted it and sent me a replacement.

No performance gains to be had from a CDI box other than losing the rev limiter
