Looking at getting a 400ex for the Sand Dunes and Trail Ride around home here locally and around the NW Ohio area.

Ive herd the 2nd Gens are heavier than the 1st Gens

I know the 2nd Gens have Reverse and I do like that.

Anything else different between the 2 and which one takes the cake?

Which one rides nicer and more comfortable on 6-10hr rides all day?

Thx

I Would go with the 2nd Gen 2005 or newer. If you really want a good one the new 2013's and current are pretty nice and comfy to sit on.

Older ones are great for turning into Competition Bikes because they have no revers and are a bit lighter as you mentioned and have no revers. In all honesty though you will never tell the Difference in weights between older one vs newer ones. The newer ones just have a much more powerful ignition system beter Timing curves and a little better designed Cam.

2014 was the last year for the TRX400X

There was no TRX400X produced in 2010 and 2011 - it was brought back for 12, 13, and 14 then discontinued again

I would recommend a 2005 and up and personally I would not buy one without the owners manual and the tool kit
