Just bought this '05 trx 350 for my son a few weeks back. Had it out two weeks ago and she ran great all day. Following weekend I could get it to start. It's got spark but smells like getting too much fuel. Will back fire every once in a while when turning over. Pulled carb today and replaced with a brand new one and seem to be getting same results. Any ideas? Thanks.

Try a new spark plug - if that's not it, check the valve clearance and go back to the original carb - drain it and check the fuel tank for water - if you don't get it going, then it will be a step by step to determine the problem.

If it has a bent valve it would not start - you only have to bend a valve .005" and it will drop the compression enough to prevent the engine from starting. Ticking is usually caused by the cam chain or excessive piston clearance or sometimes it's a clutch noise, but there a number of other possibilities depending on the speed of the tick it could be in the transmission - you have to have the valves real loose to hear a clicking from them.
