Need to replace the brushes in starter. Starter looked easy to remove after looking closer couldn't find an obvious way to remove. Don't want to make work that isn't necessary. I removed the 2 bolts toward the front of the starter and the nut holding the positive cable that comes from the battery. After that the starter goes into a part of the "case" and there are 2 bolts that go into the back of the case toward the back of the ATV that the starter goes into, but those bolts don't go into the starter. Any body know what I need to do next?

Use a screwdriver or other suitable pry tool and gently pry the starter out of the engine. It is sealed with an o-ring so it kinda gets stuck in place. Should be all there is to removing it.

Starter brush repair 2006 TRX500FM

Pulled starter and disassembled. Appears that when the brushes were formed there was extra material as they wore down and went further into the (holder) they excess material broke off and jambed one brush up. So didn't need new parts just needed to clean.
