I let my nephew ride my 300. The cylinder liner broke and was pulled down on to the crankshaft. After getting it apart the connecting rod is blued from the small end down to the start of the big end. Is this normal or was it overheated? It does not look bent or twisted. The small end does not feel stretched. How do I check if it is still serviceable? Thank you.

Tough call - I thought about for a few days and explored options. I think the only way to determine if it is salvageable is to have an experienced mechanic look at it.

I have 40 years of working on motorcycles, but I usually take my car to a "car" shop - I would not recommend taking an airplane to a boat shop. A mechanic is a mechanic, but a Ford mechanic is better on Fords than a Dodge mechanic and vice a versa. Experience is the key.
