I got a 2001 Honda 400ex the battery charged the neutral lights on the starter barely clicks when I try to start it it will start by touching metal to soliniod but it's got a new wire harness on it I had someone put on it and i noticed it was cutting in and out trying to start it n it just stopped oneday all of a sudden any ideas

Welcome to the forum.

My first guesses would be a faulty ground between the motor and the frame or a bad solenoid. The ignition system battery independent (doesn't need the battery to run) - the battery is just to run the lights and electric starter.

I would first check the fuse right beside the battery I recently had the same problem and the fuse was the culprit.

I know I’m very late. What I did to stop dirt and crap from getting in my fuse, was relocate the whole fuse to inside of my air box. I drilled two holes and ran the wire in in. Haven’t had a problem with my fuse since. It’ll get dirty eventually running an open air box lid so removing it to clean it is a good idea still. I hate the fact that all the electronics are right by where the most mud gets slung lol.
