On my 2001 400ex, on the right side where my clutch is there is a bearing that goes over this collar then the clutch basket goes over it. I attached a picture of the diagram. But the bearing only comes up on a 2005 and up and below 2005 it will show up on the diagram but not on the list. I ordered the bearing because I couldn’t find it anywhere and the diagram showed it, but it doesn’t fit. The clutch basket fits on their with no play without the bearing. So should I go without the bearing?

That bearing was not used on the 01 model and is not in the 01 parts list - Honda made a change and uses the same pic for early and late models - the part number shows up on the late model list

The assembly sequence is the same for both and while the only difference is the bearing #19.

Now many parts are NLA for 99-04 (#3 & #4) among them - if you are intent on fixing an antique, you can install parts for the 05 and up, but you have to replace all the parts unique to the 05 and up, so if you want to replace either 3 or 4, you have to buy these parts for the 05 and install them.

I spent 20 minutes looking up those parts list - what I didn't do was check for updates - it's possible #2 (the oil pump drive gear does not need replaced, but if I recall correctly the 99-04 gear was plastic and the 05-14 gear was steel or vice versa.

I'll figure it out when I have to order one.
