My TRX 250 starts fine and idles smooth. It will rev up to about 3000 rpm and stops about there and won't go higher and just starts spuddering. If I turn on the choke the motor dies. I think it might be something with the ignition timing or coil because it run fine at the low end but breaks down when the pressure rises in the cylinder.

Take the carb off and check that the main jet hasn't fallen out of the holder

Thanks for the idea. Removed the carb and jet is ok, but going to have it rebuilt anyway.

Found the problem. Inside the carb a linkage came disconnected. Thanks
