That is normal - it has to be checked when unplugged, but is has nothing to do with spark - the yel/wht wire is just a signal wire from the stator so the CDI can determine how fast the engine is running, then when in reverse and the gray wire is connected to ground, the engine will not run above a preset RPM.
The important thing is that there is 12v on the blk/wht wire, green had a good ground, the pulse generator provides a 3 to 5 volt pulse to the CDI unit - when the pulse gen triggers the CDI unit, an about 100v pulse is sent to the coil - the coil transforms the pulse into about a 40,000 volt pulse to fire the plug.
