Do you live in an area that has Alcohol (methanol, ethanol, or isopropyl) mixed with the gas? Alcohol will combine with moisture and fall out of the gas. The mixture can include other additives from the gas and can be anything from clear to a cloudy brown. BTW - today's gas (especially when blended with alcohol) degrades rapidly. It's best to use fuel within 30 days of purchase and dispose of if over 90 days old.

A good rule to live by is: always shut off the fuel to the carb, drain the carb, use the highest octane "pump" gas available in your area and use non-alcohol blended fuel if possible.
