lots of parts still won't start

I have 450 trx er I'm having starting problems. I installed a new battery, a starter and checked the starter selonid it still won't start unless I put it gear and rocket it back and forth. Dose anyone know what to check next ? If I have to go into the side case, how far do I have to go?
