Just wondering what some common things to look for are. Owner says its only been riden one year, and it needs new chain. He's asking 2900, which seems high but again im new to this. Any and all advice is appreciated, thanks.
Hold on - it's a 2006 model and only been ridden 1 year? Maybe 1 year by the current owner.
If it needs a chain, it probably needs new sprockets also. Try to look at the thickness of the material on the brake pads. What condition are the tires? What does the oil look like? Look at the air filter. Ask about the owners manual and tool kit.
The machine has a retail value of about $2600 in excellent condition (needs no repairs) and is worth about $1600 in good condition (needs minor or cosmetic repairs only).
Check at a dealership to see what a like one sells for in your area and knock off $500 to $1000 to buy from an individual. A dealer has to make profit to stay in business.
Ask the owner what he paid for it when he got it and ask what he has done to it to maintain or increase it's value. He will come down $500 to $1000 easy - if not - walk away.
