Can synthetic oil be used instead of the Honda oil recommended? I have a 2011 TRX420FM and would like to start extending its use late fall and earlier spring were the temperatures are around the freezing mark. Kevin. Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

I use Silkolene 15W50 Pro4 SX year round in my 04 - never had to do anymore to it other than normal maint. BTW - normal maint. in MY book includes changing the oil and filter each month. Dirty oil is like blood without red blood cells.

Thanks for the input. I will make the switch to an ester based full synthetic.

Yes you can, I don't find any problems with it as long as you use the correct and prescribe oil by manufactures and change it regularly.
